We believe that there should not be any lap-dancing clubs in our city, and we would strongly urge York City Council not only to close the existing two clubs in Micklegate (Bohemia and Heaven’s Above), but to adopt a zero policy for any such clubs wishing to open in the future.
We are opposed to lap-dancing clubs because:
They are not appropriate to a historical city which relies heavily on tourism;
They turn Micklegate into a no-go area for women and girls who may feel uncomfortable walking past such venues at night;
They have a negative impact on local businesses and local residents;
They rely on exploitative working conditions in order to operate.
