Each year, the State of California has gone through the same problem of the fiscal year ending without a budget properly in place.
This time it has been especially bad, to the point where the State is broke, and State income tax refunds will be answered with IOU's, not checks. In spite of this, the legislators continue to be paid THEIR money.
In order to make them DO THEIR JOBS FOR WHICH THEY WERE ELECTED, this petition, when made into law, will, in the future, STOP ALL LEGISLATORS' PAY, until a budget is in place. Any LOST pay WILL NOT BE RECOVERED BY THE STATE LEGISLATORS.
We, the undersigned, call on all of the legislators of the State of California to do their job properly annually, and have a budget approved, ready, and in place before the ending budget year expires.
IF no budget is ready and in place before the ending budget year expires, and the State must go on without a budget, then ALL State legislators' pay will STOP, UNTIL a new budget is put into place.
Any and all pay LOST by the State legislators WILL REMAIN LOST--IT SHALL NOT BE RECOVERABLE.
