Background (Preamble):
Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) is launching a campaign, joined by the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ), Canadian Media Guild (CMG), the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada and PEN Canada (NEPMCC), asking the federal government to do everything in its power to bring home Canadian journalist Amanda Lindhout and her Australian colleague Nigel Brennan. The two journalists were kidnapped in Somalia while covering the civil war there, and have been held hostage for ransom for over a year.
What we’re asking: Amanda, Nigel and their families need your help. They need both the Canadian and Austalian governments to make it a priority to secure their release. Add your voice to ours and send them this message to register your concern.
What you can do:
1) Sign the petition.
2) Copy the letter and mail or email it directly to the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and your local MP.
3) Give us feedback. Amanda’s family values your support. CJFE will pass along any information you send us about actions taken in this campaign or responses received. Email us at jpayne[@]cjfe.org.
Our goal: To gather signatures from the members of the CAJ, CJFE, CMG, NEPMCC and PEN Canada by November 15, 2009. The petition will then be delivered to the office of the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
