The Kilo is a 1000m time trial performed by sprint cyclists. It was axed from the Beijing Olympics and replaced by BMX cycling and Mountain Cycling. The women's 500 metres sprint was also dropped from the Olympics and I feel this is unfair because I believe that the same events should be available for both genders.
I think that the kilo is one of the most exciting events to watch. The science of this event is very complex but the race itself is very simple and I believe it is the most honest cycling time trial.
The kilo cyclist requires the power of a weight lifter but the anaerobic capacity to maintain the power for over a minute. It is such a wonderful event, comparable to the 100m running event and I believe it should return to the 2012 games.
We, the undersigned, call on the IOC to re introduce the One Kilometre sprint event in track cycling to the 2012 Olympic games, London.
