DCFC confirm Clough - Taylor Statue :)

* http://cloughtaylor.com/ *

As a managerial partnership Brian Howard Clough and Peter Thomas Taylor won League Championships at both Derby County and Nottingham Forest the two clubs where they spent their most successful years. After leaving Derby County the pair went on to win a double back to back European Championship with Nottingham Forest.

On November 6th 2008 the City of Nottingham unveiled a lifelike statue of Brian Clough, arguably the greatest English football manager ever known.

Both clubs agree that Clough & Taylor made a huge impact on the clubs whilst managing them.

Nottingham Forest have already honoured "Cloughie" (as he was affectionately known) by renaming a stand in his honour.

As Derby fans, we feel that Clough & Taylor's contribution to our football club should also be recognised in some way.

A couple of years ago, plans were announced for "Pride Plaza", a redevolpment of the front entrance of Pride Park Stadium, which would include a hotel, shops, and a square dedicated to Clough, which would include a "small statue".

Whilst the gesture is appreciated, the aim of this petition was to make plans for a large statue of Brian Clough to stand outside Pride Park Stadium (Given the recent change in ownership at Derby County, it is unclear whether or not the "Pride Plaza" redevelopment is still planned).

We feel that Clough & Taylor's contribution to our club needs to be rightly recognised.

We urge all Derby County and football fans in general to sign this petition, so that one of the greatest managerial partnerships in the history of the game can be truly appreciated and recognised.

Please sign this petition, and spread the word.

Thank You

Ashley Wilkinson & Kalwinder Singh Dhindsa

Two young footballers, one a novice centre forward, the other a £3,500 goalkeeper met as opponents in a practice match more than 50 years ago and sowed the seeds of a partnership destined to revolutionise and enliven football management forever.

Outrageously successful, sometimes simply outrageous; that was Brian Clough and Peter Taylor.

Peter Taylor:

'I always knew that two men, the right two, could build up a club quicker than one'.

Clough and Taylor took over two apparently deadbeat clubs and won the Football League Championship with each of them, a managerial feat unequalled since before the war.

They were the first to pay £1,000,000* for a player; the first to win the Football League Cup in successive seasons; the first to command such a fierce loyalty that a first division team threatened to strike when they resigned.

It was as a reserve goalkeeper at Middlesbrough that Peter Taylor first met Brian Clough (and it was he who spotted Clough's potential as a forward and helped him break into the first team).

Clough and Taylor went on to become one of the most famous managerial partnerships ever. While Clough inspired and motivated the team, it was Taylor who had the uncanny ability to spot talent and potential.

Clough once said of his colleague:

"I'm not equipped to manage successfully without Peter Taylor. I am the shop window and he is the goods in the back."

Taylor himself described their partnership as:

"We just gelled together, we filled in the gaps...My strength was buying and selecting the right player, then Brian's man management would shape the player."

Peter Thomas Taylor and Brian Howard Clough - Together they were the best and it is only right that they should be recognised as ONE.
