The Washington D.C. metro area is home to millions of wonderful people. While Donald Trump appears to have supporters on the campaign trail (as of Dec. 2015), we the vast majority of the people of the D.C. area are appalled by his words and ideas -- he has crossed the line in many ways, offending everyone and our nation's values.
Mr. Trump has the right to develop and open his Trump Hotel on Pennsylvania Ave., scheduled for fall 2016. But we the people of the D.C. area do not have to patronize the hotel once it opens. We do not welcome Mr. Trump's values and we do not welcome his brand, which he has tarnished by his own words and actions. Trump made his choices and now we can make ours (just as Jose Andres bravely did).
We therefore pledge to boycott the Trump Hotel DC, whatever the outcome of the election. If you are in agreement, please forward this to your friends especially from or living in the D.C. area.
We who adopt this petition pledge that when Trump Hotel DC opens in Fall 2016,
(1) we will not stay there, go to its restaurant or bar, or patronize the hotel;
(2) we will not recommend the hotel to any family, friends, or others; and
(3) if we happen to be in a position to do so, we will influence our employers not to use the hotel in any way -- no rooms or events. In short, we the people of the DC area will have nothing to do with Trump Hotel DC.
This is no comment on anyone who needs and gets a job there. Our hope is that our collective decision to boycott the hotel will lead its investors/lenders to realize that the hotel needs to have a different luxury brand and that this will come to pass, and that we will not have to see "Trump" on our grand avenue (in which case this pledge will be moot and we shall all flock to the location to celebrate).
