East Dunbartonshire Council have advised their constituents that they shall be creating a 'HUB' at the Burgh Hall, Bearsden Cross. This will house all services including the local library 'Brookwood'.
Publicity regarding these proposals have been scarce, limited to advertising in the local paper which is not read by all. Public notices of same not in evidence.
Few constituents wish this 'HUB' located in a clearly congested area with few parking facilities, near the busy A809 Drymen Rd, thus posing safety, access and exit problems for young and old. Also, these proposals shall facilitate the disposal of other community assets, namely 'Brookwood' and the local Registry Office on Roman Rd. (In the past other community properties with land have been sold to property developers for private housing and a luxury hotel. Yet within the councils financial report 2014, it was stated 'It is likely that disposal of heritage assets will be made only very occasionally' - and - Manage it's affairs to secure and make effective use of reserves and safeguard assets'.
Furthermore this Council built new offices in Kirkintilloch, their old offices at Tom Johnston House now lie dormant, racking up continuous charges for its upkeep. Whilst in the meantime local public toilets have been closed. Roads are a disgrace with potholes and give way lines obliterated and, a recent cycle lane 'Bears Way' project on Milngavie Road causes complete disbelief in its execution.
Notice of complaints to local councillors regarding the HUB receive no due attention.
We the undersigned wish to oppose the creation of a 'HUB' at Bearsden Cross by East Dunbartonshire Council for reasons of:
Lack of Parking Facilities.
Congestion on the A809 Drymen Road. - Access and Exit of said 'HUB'.
Safety of the public.
Disposal of current Library or, any other Community asset by the Council.
External appearance of 'HUB'.
