Ban Use Of Lung Cancer Causing Asbestos in Sri Lanka and SARC Nations

We the undersigned, call on all elected Governments in the SARC (South Asia Region) countries to immediately BAN ALL USE OF ASBESTOS in public and private buildings and in the construction and building materials industry itself, including all mining and processing of asbestos, as it causes a deadly lung cancer known as
Mesothelioma or Meso.

This petition is made after considering the latest scientific and medical evidence that has proven that WHITE Asbestos is as harmful as Brown and Blue Asbestos. All three common types of asbestos, white (chrysotile), blue (crocidolite) and brown (amosite), were in the lungs of about 70 per cent of the lung cancer cases (146 of the 221) studied by doctors recently. Six minerals are defined as "asbestos" including: chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, tremolite, anthophyllite and actinolite, and they are used in processing construction products.

Mesothelioma is a form of lung cancer almost always caused by asbestos exposure. Within a year or so of becoming diagnosed, a patient can die from the incurable disease. The 15 to 50 year latency period from asbestos exposure to onset has meant the number of people that will continue being diagnosed with the illness is expected to rise over the next couple decades. Asbestos is not only known to cause MESOTHELIOMA CANCER but is ONE of the DEADLIEST FORMS of CANCER today, with a Mortality Rate so High that EIGHT out of TEN of Those Diagnosed PASS AWAY Within a YEAR of Their Diagnosis.

We the undersigned, therefore request all health authorities to alert the medical practitioners and patient community about the risk of being exposed to already installed asbestos materials, and for SARC Governments to institute an immediate ban and also take remedial measures to replace the existing asbestos installations.
