Styrofoam is a problem for many reasons; it takes a long time to decompose, gets into and pollutes our oceans, and is dangerous for our health reasons. According to Science.org, it takes a minimum of 500 years for styrofoam to decompose. This presents another issue, which is how it gets into our environment. In 1975, there were around 14 billion pounds of styrofoam in the ocean. Over the years, this keeps increasing, and we must stop this. Lastly, styrofoam is very bad for our health. In 2014, The International Agency for Research on Cancer said that it can cause cancer.
We are petitioning to ban Styrofoam from Miami Dade. As listed above, styrofoam is horrible for the environment, and we must get rid of it, if we want to preserve the environment. We need Miami Dade to fully ban styrofoam.
