Ban Smoking in Dubai's Public Places (indoors)

I am a full time Irish singer and entertainer in UAE. I have a wife and three children. We love and are proud of this country we have called home for the last 11 years. I respect it's visionary leaders & citizens.

Following press reports last year that smoking laws were to be tightened further in Dubai by end of 2016, I was disappointed when It did not happen. (Sample article here:

I believe that implementation of a public ban on smoking in public spaces (indoors) would be a good step for residents and citizens. Specifically, indoor bars and restaurants in Dubai.

I was partly inspired to put out this petition by the death of a friend in Ireland over two years ago due to throat cancer. This resonated with me due to the fact that i sing every week in smoky bars / restaurants in Dubai. More than singers, the smoke affects the staff and customers in all these locations.

This petition is meant to support the ongoing efforts of the Dubai Government to improve the health and safety of its citizens and residents. By offering a gauge of general public support for this petition, we hope that Dubai government will feel supported in its contuing plans to make Dubai a better and happier place for its citizens, residents and visitors.

There are obvious concerns about the this ban on businesses in the UAE. However, I believe that the relevant ministries are skilled and capable enough to learn from best practice elsewhere & create laws and exceptions that would help mitigate some of these concerns. (E.g. Shisha Cafes)

Wouldn't it be great to have an announcement of this on World No Smoking day, May 31st 2017?
