Petition Background (Preamble):
Jumps Racing in Australia, is only done in two states, SA & VIC. NSW Has banned it, while all other states, discontinued hurdles as they were not financially viable. The 2011 Jumps Season has seen 10 horses die across SA & NSW, as well as 51 falls. These numbers are unacceptable.
Last year, RVL failed two out of three KPI's required to keep jumps racing going. This year, they simply scrapped the two KPI's they failed to meet.
They have injected near $10mil into the continuation of jumps raicng - and yet the horses keep falling, and dying.
Public opinion is changing. Jumps Racing is no longer an acceptable form of entertainment.
It is time to end jumps racing.
Three days after creating this petition, a horse called Guara Grove Beast" was killed in a jumps race at Morphettville SA. In the previous jumps race that day, the winning horse (a 4yo) was floated off the track after breaking down after the winning post. His current status is unknown.
