PEOPLE’S ARREST WARRANT
For Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir
DATE: November 7, 2008
COURT: International Citizens Tribunal for Sudan
PROSECUTOR: Compassionate Citizens of the World
ACCUSED: Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir
We, the people and organizations represented by the signatures below, on behalf of the people of Darfur - more than 300,000 Darfurians killed, more than 2.7 million Darfurians forcibly pushed from their ancestral homeland and unknown hundreds of thousands of Darfurian women and girls raped and children left orphaned and others - hereby issue this People’s Arrest Warrant against Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir, accused of criminal charges issued by the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo that are listed below:
Crime of Genocide under Article 6 (a) of the Rome Statute (a) killing members of the Fur, Mazalit and Zaghawa ethnic groups and others (b) causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of those groups, and (c) deliberately inflicting on those groups conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction in part; for Crimes Against Humanity under Article 7 (1) of the Rome Statute for crimes as part of a widespread and systematic attack directed against the civilian population of Darfur with knowledge of the attack, the acts of (a) murder, (b) extermination, (d) forcible transfer of the population, (f) torture, and (g) rapes; and for War Crimes under Article 8 (2)(e)(i) of the Rome Statute for intentionally directing attacks against the civilian population as such, and (v) pillaging a town or place
We present this People's Arrest Warrant as an act of solidarity with all suffering Darfurians who to no avail are seeking help that has not come even after five long years. We deliver this People's Arrest Warrant to move the international community to arrest this perpetrator of genocide.
It is time to stop protecting leaders whose abuse of power knows no limit. It is time to make Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir accountable for terrorizing Sudan's citizens. We, therefore, present this People’s Arrest Warrant to John Ucek Lueth, Sudanese Ambassador to the United States of America, in lieu of, and until such time, as an arrest warrant is issued by the International Criminal Court for the purpose of bringing President Bashir to justice for his ongoing crimes against the people of Darfur.
