No attendance policy should count and punish tardy students as if they never showed up to class at all. This policy leaves way too much room for favoritism, scrutiny, and inconsistencies in the classroom.
There should be an alternative punishment considered, such as deducting certain amount of points versus a letter grade after so many tardies. Thus the professor's bias is removed from influencing the student's grade.
We, the undersigned, call on the Texas State OEP department to amend the attendance policy so that tardies alone do not fail a student, and so that there is less room for favoritism, discrepancies, and misunderstandings from the professor.
