REALISING the efforts the Formal Committee have put into organising the 2014 Year 12 Formal;
APPLAUDING those efforts; however
CONCERNED now that the Formal is to be held in the permanent marquee, rather than the original location, at The Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley due to clerical error;
NOTING WITH DEEP CONCERN the wide dissatisfaction of the student body at this change;
NOTING FURTHER the calls for a revote from the student body;
FULLY AWARE that parents/carers - generally- will be paying for the Formal;
EXPECTING parent and carers too to have a role in deciding the venue;
AFFIRMING the duties of elected Student Representatives to support and act on behalf of then student body;
DISAPPOINTED AND DEMORALISED at the Year Advisers' enforcing a nonnegotiable status upon the formal without taking into account the wide student dissatisfaction;
RECALLING that the venue is not local, being 30 minutes away via The Hunter Expwy
ALERTED TO THE FACT that many students are discontent with travelling such a distance; however
NOTING that free bus transport is provided, yet many students will want to travel in hire cars;
REMINDING the organising staff that Australia is a democracy, and that said staff ought to listen to the student body prior to making permanent decisions following a drastic change of plans; however
WELCOMING negotiation; and
UNDERSTANDING that we have a common goal, to provide a happy and safe conclusion to our senior studies.
We, the undersigned Year 12 students and their supporters, hereby call upon the Campus Executive of Jesmond Senior Campus to allow:
(1) Further student and parent/carer input on the 2014 Year 12 Formal, in the form of a Student Supervised revote;
(2) An alternative, local formal venue, if required, decided by the Students and their Parents/Carers.
