Background (Preamble):
The Union Health Ministry of India headed by Anbumani Ramadoss has decided to introduce rural posting for one year. This increases the MBBS course from 5 & 1/2 yrs to 6 & 1/2 years.

As medical students of India,we are not against rural posting but it extends an already lengthy professional course. Most of us are from middle class families & have responsibilities towards our families.

By introducing this new proposal the government aims to provide doctors in rural areas under the National Rural Health Mission[NHRM],but it is at the expense of our careers. The rural posting should be included under the 5 & 1/2 yr course.

After research we have discovered the true motive behind this. This is move to bank the votes of people in rural areas by providing them unregistered medical students.

WHY NOT SEND THOUSANDS OF REGISTERED DOCTORS WHO WANT TO WORK IN RURAL AREAS?----THAT'S BECAUSE THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE PAID A SALARY & GIVEN INCENTIVES AS GOVERNMENT SERVANTS. SO WHY NOT INSTEAD SACRIFICE THE MEDICAL STUDENTS!! ---This is a hijack of our future..... the purpose is not National Rural Health Mission---- instead it is National Rural VOTES mission.

Another motive is to show to the world that we have doctors in rural areas, even if medical facilities & essential drugs are substandard. In some rural health care centres, essential drugs like paracetamol are also in short. WHAT CAN WE DOCTORS DO IN SUCH CENTRES. WE DO NOT HAVE A MAGIC WAND. WE CANNOT DRIVE A CAR WITHOUT WHEELS!!!

"The Bill Gates Foundation" had decided to invest in improving the rural health care in India, but seeing the existing infrastructure,it has withdrawn it's funds.THIS IS A SHAME!!!

The president of India, Smt.Pratibha Patil must help us & put an end to this proposal. We respect you madam & we hope that you will look into this matter & take concrete action......
