Petition Background (Preamble):
We are a group of parents in Tower Hamlets who are concerned about the way in which Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) is being taught in our primary schools.
We believe the Council's interference in primary schools and in particular the promotion of the Christopher Winter Project (CWP) is both unwarranted and effectively silences the voice of parents.
Government guidelines on teaching SRE places responsibility on governing bodies to consult parents when choosing SRE resources and writing a policy.
Governing bodies should decide on resources and an SRE policy free from council interference.

OPEN TO TOWER HAMLETS' RESIDENTS ONLY
I call upon Tower Hamlets Council and specifically the Healthy Lives Team:
1) To cease funding CWP in primary schools.
2) To withdraw the CWP from all primary schools currently working with any part of the CWP scheme of work.
3) To ensure that all schools deliver SRE in line with ‘parents' wishes’ and 'the culture of the community the school serves', through actively consulting parents and making them a part of decision-making.
