The council has introduced an age restriction on Hackney cabs, which will see cars over 8 years taken off the road. The council in Lancashire have recently made a U-turn on their decision to introduce an age restriction, accepting that it is unfair, and will add to the financial hardship already faced by hackney drivers due to the raising fuel and insurance costs, as per http://www.lep.co.uk/news/Victory-for-golden-oldie-black.5079903.jp.
The council are already enforcing stringent checks on hackney cabs, as well as making them pass two yearly MOT's instead of just the one.
This move by the council will make £10,000 cabs worthless, and is not financially sane considering the current recession. The council are also discriminating against drivers in different localities. If they wish to enforce a restriction it must be made national, there has to be one rule for all, not a separate rule for Leicester Taxi Drivers.
We, the undersigned, request the Leicester City Council to abolish the restriction policy for Hackney carriages in Leicester.
