For many years it has been a policy at Marion Center High School that a sporting team must finish with a winning percentage at or above .500 in order for the school to send them to the district playoffs.
This is completely unrelated to the playoff seeding system used by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association which ranks teams based on a sophisticated point system in order to select playoff teams.
The major problem here is in many cases, teams develop throughout the season and sometimes playing at a level that would put them in a position to compete at a high level at the end of the season. Because of this, the student athletes are offered no incentive to work harder to improve by the end of the season after a tough start.
This policy also does not take into account factors that are out of the students' control such as coaching changes and/or injuries that may occur at the beginning of the season.
Please help the Marion Center Girls volleyball team in petitioning the Marion Center High School in order to receive support and be sent to the 2015 PIAA District 6 playoffs.
Every one of the girls feels as if the coaches that are now in place within this program offer a bright future to the team. Injuries have also hurt this team in the first few weeks of the season but are now in the past with the team playing at full health. The team also was forced to wait to get into the gym at Marion center for 5 weeks prior to the season due to a renovation f the facilities. No offer was made by the school to support the use of alternative locations.
These girls are a very hard-working group of dedicated athlete and students who strongly feel that they can compete at a high level if they are given the chance to go to the PIAA Playoffs.
Please support them and all of the Marion Center Athletic teams as we all know the importance of sports in these young lives.
