As you may or may not be aware, the Town of Irmo has purchased 14 acres of land in the Old Friarsgate suburb with the intention of building a Community Park. This land is adjacent to Eastview Drive, Doncaster Drive, and Church Street (situated between Lake Murray Blvd., Old Friarsgate suburb, Fox Run suburb, and Union United Methodist Church)
According to the Irmo Town Council, the proposed park will serve the following purposes:
*Future home of the Irmo Okra Strut
*Public amphitheater for various concerts and gatherings
*Nature trails & walkways
*Playgrounds
*Picnic areas
*Possible other park features to be decided upon
Due to the potential safety, privacy, disruption of natural habitat, and noise concerns, several residents have requested a natural buffer between residences adjacent to the park of 100 ft.
This buffer of 100 ft. was initially proposed by the Irmo Town Council when it decided to purchase the land for the development of this park. Since then, however, many Town Council members have disregarded this initial buffer size. In August 2012, much of the 14 acres was cleared for development. This included land within 15 ft of several residences.
This petition is meant to persuade the Irmo Town Council members to maintain their promise to residents of a 100 ft. buffer around the park perimeter. The safety, privacy, and comfort of our citizens is at stake if this promise is not upheld.
We the undersigned call on the Irmo Town Council to uphold its promise of a 100 ft. buffer around the perimeter of the proposed park adjacent to Eastview Drive, Doncaster Drive, and Church Street.
