SUMMARY The present Olympic weightlifting forum has not been fundamentally changed for thousands of years.

Modern "speed-repetition" developments in weightlifting that combine aerobic speed and stamina together with resistance strength can now achieve far higher lifting weight totals than anything envisioned in the past (a coefficient of 1,000).

Today, Olympic total weight lifting champions are characterized by either “bulking up” or already possessing huge bulk at relatively young ages. Adding "speed repetition" exercises that embrace aerobic speed and strength to Olympic lifting changes this restrictive participation format so that future participants can be almost anyone regardless of size or age. Presently, there are two Olympic weight lifting exercises.

This petition simply adds two more. If the total weight achieved difference in performance turns out to be an embarrassment to traditional Olympic lifters, one should be reminded that this worldwide forum is designed to determine who can lift the most weight and not to protect any particular lifting style.

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, CALL ON THE INTERNATIONAL WEIGHT LIFTING FEDERATION (IWF) TO ADD:

(1) AN EVENT TO LIFT ONE MILLION POUNDS IN ONE HOUR OR LESS.

(2) AN EVENT TO LIFT 500 POUNDS OR MORE PER SECOND, 25,000 POUNDS MINIMUM LIFT.

This petition is to add two weight lifting speed-repetition resistance exercises to the Olympic weightlifting competition. Each added exercise is based on capturing total weight lifting power through the speed of the lift (p=fV).

1. The first requested speed-repetition weight lifting exercise is a one million pound lift in the shortest total time period for both males and females.

2. The second requested speed- repetition weight lifting exercise is a three minute, single set, multiple repetition lift with the objective being total pounds-per-second.

The qualifying minimum for this single lift set must average 250 pounds-per-second for females and 500 pounds-per-second for males. Otherwise it is the highest recorded weight in pounds per second with the total weight lift being at least 25,000 pounds.
