Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and fourth highest of the Seven Summits. It is the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, with Uhuru Peak rising to an altitude of 5,895 m (19,341 ft) Above Mean Sea Level.

Kilimanjaro is composed of three distinct volcanic cones: Kibo 5,895 m (19,341 ft); Mawenzi 5,149 m (16,893 ft); and Shira 3,962 m (13,000 ft). Uhuru Peak is the highest summit on Kibo's crater rim.

Kilimanjaro is a giant stratovolcano that began forming a million years ago, when lava spilled from the Rift Valley zone.

The name Kilimanjaro originates from local dialect, European explorers had adopted the name by 1860 and reported that it was its Swahili name, with Kilimanjaro breaking into Kilima (Swahili for "hill, little mountain") and Njaro, whose supposed origin varies according to the theories—according to some it's an ancient Swahili word for white or for shining, or for the non-Swahili origin, a word from the Kichagga language, the word jaro meaning "caravan". The name might be a local joke, referring to the "little hill of the Njaro" being the biggest mountain on the African continent, since this is a nearby town, and guides recount that it is the Hill of the Njaro people. A different approach is to assume that it comes from the Kichagga kilmanare or kileajao meaning "which defeats the bird/leopard/caravan".

The Coca cola company registered the name Kilimanjaro as their trademark, through Bonite Bottlers Ltd an affiliate company based and registered in Tanzania dealing on bottled mineral water.

Many local people are starting to question if The Cocacola Company really care and respects cultural diversity, names and heritage hence the neo-exploitation of Africa resources.

In essence the Coca Cola Company- Claims goes against Intellectual Property on Outstanding Universal Value as enshrined under the UNESCO and IUCN
1..Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. Paris, 20 October 2005.
2.Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Paris, 17 October 2003.
3.Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Paris, 16 November 1972.

By claiming Intellectual Properties ownership of the Name and design of the Mountain,Coca-Cola Company undermines the reputation of the company especially in Africa and world at large. We therefore emphatically demand review and right to dispose of, according to law, Kilimanjaro trademark right and the right relating to trademark.

With one Voice we, the undersigned, strongly oppose registration and Rights Claims of Kiliamajaro name as Coca-Cola trademark. The name is a Natural Heritage of East Africa Community and Africa Continent at large, the continuous use of the name for commercial purposes amounts to lowering our dignity as African states and people,
We call for the immediate termination of the trademark and a public apology to the Africa Citizens and the world at large.

On behalf of African Countries.
