This spring, a panel will decide whether to approve construction of a new nuclear power plant at Darlington, Ontario (east of Toronto).
Nuclear power plants are dirty, risky and expensive – and not necessary to meet Ontario’s electricity needs.
Help stop this new nuclear plant by signing this petition and sharing it with other youth (age 20 and under).

We the undersigned youth urge the Joint Review Panel NOT to approve the construction of four new nuclear reactors at Darlington, Ontario.
We do so because:
As youth, we will shoulder the greatest burden of paying for the $25 billion plant through a lifetime of high hydro rates and taxes;
We will face the greatest health risks from exposure to radiation and the risk of a nuclear accident like the one in Chernobyl that killed tens of thousands of people;
We will be responsible for trying to find a way to safely store radioactive waste which is hazardous for thousands of years;
We have not been consulted in our schools or communities about the decision to build a new nuclear plant;
We have been misinformed by government and industry leaders who portray nuclear energy as “clean”, “emission-free” and “affordable”;
And we believe that Ontario’s electricity needs can be met more safety and more cheaply through energy conservation and renewable energy.
