With an increase in obesity in Australia and the high cost of obesity related health problems heart conditions eg heart disease, also diabetes, arthritis, increased risk of certain cancers etc,. Isn't it time to lobby our government to help those out there who genuinely can't afford and need this possible life saving surgery?
I believe in the long run it would cost the tax payers less. Even if the surgery was not free, but offered to those in genuine need at a reasonable fee, that could be paid off in instalments. And it is all well and good to say it is the problem of the individual for being in that situation, please remember there are many causes (including depression) that can cause a person's obesity.
We, the undersigned, call on the Australian Government to help make Gastric Banding surgery affordable for those in genuine need.
