The DVLA is currently unregulated and has no formal process of monitoring incoming mail and regularly experiences delays in processing incoming mail.

This can result in drivers having the licences revoked with no notice or receiving fines.

For example, my licence was returned to the DVLA for points to be added. The DVLA's letter asked for me to return it within 28 days, which I duly did.

On 28th December 2010 I received a letter telling me my licence had been revoked because they had not received it.

When I called to query this a recorded message informed me that they are currently experiencing delays with mail, and please wait 21 days for licences to be returned.

I am a delivery driver so obviously with no licence I could not work and expect to lose 4 weeks pay whilst I apply for a new licence.

To reapply for my licence has cost be £50.00

When I called the DVLA to protest and ask them to wait to see if my licence turned up in their back log, they read from a script and did not answer my direct questions and refused to accept any responsibility.

We, the undersigned, call on the DVLA to:

Implement a system whereby all incoming mail is recorded before being processed.

Have an independent ombudsman for dealing with complaints.

To send out warning letters before revoking a licence to allow drivers to report licences missing if necessary.

Individual employees to be held accountable when a mistake is made with a drivers licence.
