An estimated 700 people lost their lives, murdered in cold horrific sights in July 2009, members of Boko Haram Islamic sect claimed responsibility.

On September 7, 2010, Boko Haram attacked a prison in Bauchi where they freed about 750 inmates.

December 25, 2010, Bomb explosions where more than 80 people have reportedly lost their lives.

We are Nigerian citizens deeply concerned about the state of Internal Security of the Nigerian state and therefore call on all civil societies, Groups, Non governmental Institutions, Religious leaders and other responsible Nigerian citizens to take a stand and demand a change.

It is no longer news that our country now stand on the verge of total collapse stemming from internal crises that has seen thousands sent to their early graves and hundreds of Nigerian children made orphans. Many of these victims were either hacked to death in their sleep or simply set ablaze in a horrific manner.

It is also no longer news that the past and current government had taken little proactive actions to stem these crises in the bud, and in many cases, Criminals simply walk free. It is now evident that our democratic society has been hijacked and we no longer feel safe in our own homes, without a pre-emptive approach, many more will lose their lives and terrorism will be a greater issue to deal with in the near future.

We are calling all governmental parastatals, the National Assembly and the Executive to consider proposing and executing a bill for the decentralization of the Police command and address other key security concerns. To foster this, both arms of the government must consider a proposal for creation of a new state police structure with better intelligence and information gathering technology. This will effectively improve the response time in cases of emergency and ensure that the Police are better equipped to protect Nigerians from future internal crises.

We also call for a timely apprehension of all criminals involved in the Jos crises, a robust investigation to identify the root of all the crises, and subsequent prosecution of all individuals found guilty of recklessly flouting the rules and provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is the only way that the families of the victims can be assured of fairness and Justice, and will also set an example that the government is not afraid to bring rogues to Justice.
