We understand that Oxford City Council are discussing a proposal to start charging for parking at the Cutteslowe Park car park at the end of Harbord Road.

Summertown Stars Football Club is a major user of Cutteslowe Park and has 400 boys and girls (ages 6 to 18) as playing members.

We are very concerned with the proposal to introduce car parking Charges at Cutteslowe Park for the following reasons:

1) Unfair costs for parents who are simply supporting their children playing sport. Over a year the charges will represent a significant cost for parents. This seems deeply unfair as the Club maintains a very low subscription fee - £65 per annum per player - and allows substantial discounts for those on low incomes.

2) Overflow onto neighbouring roads. Despite the best efforts of the club to persuade our visitors and parents of players to use the car park the charge is likely to add to the inevitable displacement by other users of the park into the free spaces in neighbouring roads - this proposal is likely to result in understandable antagonism by residents in relation to football related parking.

3) Deterring other clubs coming to the Park. We play matches with clubs all over Oxfordshire who have no other practical option but to drive to Cutteslowe.

We therefore strongly urge Oxford City Council to drop this proposal.
