At least one booze industry lobby group has contributed to efforts to keep marijuana illegal in California: Rhonda Stevenson, of the California Beer and Beverage Distributors (cbbd.com), defended this group's $10.000. donation to support opponents of efforts to legalize, tax, and regulate marijuana in California via Prop. 19 on the state's Nov. 2010 ballot. ( Booze distributors donate to opponents of Prop. 19 ) Stevenson denied fear of competition as reason for the donation. Instead, she claimed concern of highway safety issues for her drivers and the public if marijuana is legalized.
Ms. Stevenson mentioned nothing in her statement of alcohol related injuries and fatalities on California highways. ( Drunk Driving Statistics. )
We, the undersigned, wish to inform the California Beer and Beverage Distributors association and the entire alcohol beverage industry that many Americans wanting marijuana legalized are also consumers of alcohol beverages. Thus, we are boycotting the booze industry until marijuana is legalized in every American state and at the federal level.
