Canada requires potential winners of prizes, and sweepstakes from companies to answer a mathematical skill testing question. They say this is so the contest was not a game of chance but a contest of skill. They also say it is illegal for companies to give away free items in a contest. The skill testing question is their way of getting around the game of chance to a contest of skill.

We the undersigned say that the Government of Canada should eliminate the requirement of answering a mathematical skill testing question for winning a prize. If a person is a prize winner you should win that prize hands down. Not everyone can do math in their head let alone with a calculator.

I know many people who do not enter contests because of the skill testing question. If this is a free country why can't companies give away prizes for free to the general public as a promotion for their business? I feel that if anyone puts their name into a draw for a prize or sweepstakes, and they win. They win they should not be denied their prize just because they answered a math question wrong. If you want to do math questions do them in a school or university Do not use them with the general public.

Fair is fair, you enter a draw, you are picked as the winner for the draw. You win the prize. No strings attached. That is what the skill testing question is it is a string attached to winning the prize. So we are asking you to please lift the law that you must answer a mathematical skill testing question correctly and let the person who was drawn to just have their prize.

Thank you.
