Deschutes County and Central Oregon need a veterans skilled nursing and Alzheimer facility. Currently, veterans have one option, the Home in the Dalles. A second is planned for Lebanon and a third proposed for Roseburg. However, all these choices require that veterans must leave their families and friends far behind, especially in the winter. This might mean that a veteran's last days are alone except for the Band of Brothers also at the home.
Second, and always secondary to the needs of veterans are the benefits to our communities. An 150 bed facility could generate 190 jobs and a $10 million dollar per year payroll.
We the undersigned request that the Deschutes County Commissioners collaborate with the veterans groups in Deschutes County to develop a workable proposal for a Veterans Skilled Nursing and Alzheimer's facility for Deschutes County and Central Oregon.
