#Neighborhood Living
Target:
Huntington School Board - Huntington Town Hall
Region:
United States of America

The gang violence, drugs and illegal housing in the Huntington Station community is indeed a serious problem but we, the parents, educators and other concerned citizens of Huntington Station refuse to give up Jack Abrams Elementary School or surrender our community to local thugs.

We the undersigned; are asking for the aid of our local politicians, law enforcement and clergy to assist us in making our community safe from gang violence, drugs and housing situations that perpetuate illegal activities.

We cannot allow gang activity to warrant the closings of our educational facilities such as the Jack Abrams Elementary School, instead we plead for help not only in keeping it open, but making it safe.

We need professional community programs to reduce crime and gang involvement among our youth. We need education for our parents and educators to learn the signs of gang activity and to learn why youth join gangs and how to counter those influences. We need help from our religious leaders to provide church programs our children can get involved in.

While lawmakers seek to apply harsh, punitive measures for young gang members, we believe we need infrastructures, focusing on prevention, rather than punishment that include our communities' advisers from the courts, schools, clergy and social services.

We need everyone who is against gang activity, violence and desires a safer community to live and raise your children to sign this.

SAVE OUR SCHOOL AND SAVE OUR COMMUNITY.
