It has been researched and proven that advising and/or mentoring students in higher education provides them with the necessary resources to stay in school; thereby, increasing student retention also increasing graduation rates.
Mentoring/Advising, whether done in groups or one on one have shown that it provides the much needed structure and open communication needed for a student and college program to be successful. The fact remains that Dr. Andrew Paterna, Head of the Sports and Exercise Program, is working with a ratio of 1 to 130 student ratio. The normal ratio of other colleges in CT is 12 to 1.
The Sports and Exercise Program at MCC needs another full time staff person to help in providing curriculum consistency, counseling and advisement, become a liaison between MCC and other four year institutions and provide more open communications between faculty and students.
We, the undersigned, call on the Administration of Manchester Community College, to provide the Sports and Exercise Program with another full time professor.
