- The RockLib, where the English collections are located during the refurbishment of the Main Library, operates significantly shorter opening hours than the Main Library, and is closed on Sundays;

- English students would normally expect to have access to books 24 hours a day during the examination period;

- English students are required to engage in extensive
independent book-based study, and are particularly reliant on the texts available in the Library;

- A photocopier is a basic necessity in a library. It is vital that students are able to photocopy extracts from books, particularly reference books, without the inconvenience of having to carry them to another library and back;

- Students feel it is unfair and unacceptable that they will not have access to the expected resources;

- Staff and student representatives have written to Paul Ayris, Head of Library Services, and received a wholly unsatisfactory response;

- UCL is highly renowned for its English Department, and these cuts during such a vital period are detrimental to this reputation;

- UCL is currently seeking to enhance the student experience, and these cuts run counter to this aim.

Please state whether you are a member of staff/ student and year group.

We, the undersigned, seek longer opening hours of the RockLib during the examination period and the installation of a photocopier.
