On November 2, 2009, Shelli Bell, supervisor for the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Olympia was laid off. It is understandable that in an economy such as this, lay offs are bound to happen. However, there are several factors to why Shelli Bell should not have been laid off.

First, the management of the City has yet to give a good reason for laying Shelli off. Yes, times are tough and we don't want anyone to lose their job, but someone who has 17 years of contacts and experience in this field? What is the reason? I have yet to hear of a reasonable answer to this question.

Secondly, Shelli Bell's job should be reinstated because she is the heart of the City's recreational programs. Not only does she do her job by organizing the leagues, but she goes above and beyond, trying to make the programs work for everybody. She is beloved by so many players from the kids programs to those who have been playing the 17 years she has worked for the City. Honestly, Shelli Bell makes the city a better place to live and to play.

In determining whether you should sign the petition, ask yourself this... Can you imagine the city and your leagues without Shelli Bell??

We, the undersigned, call upon the City of Olympia to reinstate the employment of Shelli Bell.
