Hayward Adult School Administration the made the recent decision to hire a new Medical Terminology Teacher for the summer of 2009. While we do agree that having an additional teacher in Medical Program would be beneficial, we are strongly opposed to the new Instructor teaching Medical Terminology III during the summer.

1.) We are very familiar with Ms. Alice Gibson's teaching style, and know and appreciate her teaching ability.

2.) She has already begun preparations for the summer coursework. We will have eight tests in six weeks. She was already planning to give us reading assignments at the end of this quarter so that we wouldn't be as pressured for time in June.

3.) Trying to learn a new instructor's teaching style in such a limited period of time is difficult. In addition, we have many students who have the added pressures of finishing their education before their unemployment ends, and finding child care for the summer since the decision has been made to close child care facility here.

4.) Education is meant to prepare the student to be a contributing member of society, As Administrators, the goal must always be what is best for the students you serve and what is fiscally possible. Since we can obviously afford a new medical instructor, why not start a new medical terminology I class, and allow Ms. Gibson to continue teaching the same students she's taught for two prior semesters?

We, the undersigned, call on the Hayward Adult School Administration to reinstate Ms. Alice Gibson as the medical terminology I, II, and III teacher for the entire year of 2009. We further request that the administration strongly support Ms. Gibson in her role of more that ten years, by providing her an assistant.

Ms. Gibson has not only been responsible for building this program, but investing in the lives of hundreds of men and women over the years. She has assisted many students (and continues to do so), with many of the life skills not taught in the typical classroom. We thank you for your willingness to consider our petition and look forward to your timely response.
