The violation of human rights in Iran continues unabated. Currently, there are more than 70 minors awaiting the death penalty and the religious dictatorship in Iran has executed more than 400 people in 2007.

Last year for the 54th time, the United Nations General Assembly condemned Iran for continuing its practices of "torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment such as flogging and amputations," and the "continuing of public executions, including multiple public executions, and, on a large scale, of other executions, in the absence of respect for internationally recognized safeguards, and the issuing of sentences of stoning." In particular, the General Assembly deplored "the execution of persons who were under the age of 18 at the time their offence was committed."

The Iranian regime's appalling human rights dossier during the past three decades speaks for itself.

As a small part of this record, more than 120,000 political prisoners have so far been executed (A list encompassing 20,000 people along with their names and details has recently been published by the Iranian Resistance), and opposition activists abroad have been murdered or injured by the mullahs' terror squads.

On November 2, 2007 Amnesty International stated that these executions amount to a crime against humanity.

We believe it is a moral obligation to strongly condemn the systematic human rights abuses in Iran and support the aspirations of millions of Iranian citizens who are striving for democratic change in their homeland.

The Iranian regime has stepped up its war on the Iranian population. It has begun attempts to legitimize the death penalty for blasphemy, magic and sorcery, while significantly increasing oppression against students, women, labor organizers, teachers and all those who are struggling to obtain their basic human rights.

In December 2007, more than 700 parliamentarians from 25 European countries supported a call by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian Resistance's President-elect, for reinstatement of a UN special reporter to monitor the abysmal human rights situation in Iran.

In view of the persistent and systematic human rights abuses by the Iranian regime, we urgently call upon the international community, specially the UN Secretary General, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Human Rights Council to:

1. Appoint a UN special reporter to monitor the human rights situation in Iran.

2. Make any improvements in economical and diplomatic relations with the Iranian regime contingent on the improvement of the human rights situation.

3. Refer the Iranian regime's human rights dossier, especially the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in the summer of 1988, which is considered to be a crime against humanity, to the UN Security Council, and implement immediate and practical steps to prosecute officials responsible for that massacre in an international tribunal.
