Background (Preamble):
There is a tradition at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, where Detroit Red Wings fans will toss an octopus onto the rink, and someone will pick it up and twirl it around.
Petition:
To the legislators in Lansing, Michigan. We, the undersigned demand that you pass legislation bringing to and end the abuse of any octopus in any hockey game in the state. These animals are tossed onto the rinks and then twirled around like they are toys.
This would never be done with dead cats or dogs. This atrocity must be stopped. Octopi are intelligent and gentle animals. WE must send word to the legislators in Lansing that it must be made illegal to abuse an animal like this.
