1. Call to save Arash Sadeghi-Appel pour sauver Arash Sadeghi

Arash Sadeghi,31 a defender of human rights, imprisoned in the section 350 of Evin prison, is very sick, but the Iranian authorities put Arash’s life in danger by refusing to transfer him to the hospital.
Arash Sadeghi started a hunger strike in October 2016 to protest against the incarceration of his wife, Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee, a human rights militant imprisoned because she wrote a fiction about stoning – the fiction not even being released yet. Arash Sadeghi ended his hunger strike on Tuesday January 3rd, after 71 days, but hasn’t received any care since. His current status is critical and he needs to go through intensive care. The authorities are playing with the life of Arash by refusing to transfer him to a hospital. Prevent a prisoner to receive proper care is crual and like a torture towards him and his family.
The Iranian authorities must immediately transfer Arash Sadeghi to a hospital to provide the care he needs urgently.
We strongly protest against this situation and call for Arash Sadeghi to be freed and immediately transferred to the hospital.
By signing this letter, we call the international organisations of human rights to take urgent measures to save the life of Arash Sadeghi. If we don’t act today, tomorrow might be too late.

Please sign this petition to help us save Arash Sadeghi.

2. Immediate & Unconditional Dismissal of Charges against Imprisoned Human Rights Activists, Arash Sadeghi and Golrokh Iraee!

UPDATED on DJan 30, 2017.

Arash Sadeghi, who had broken his prolonged hunger strike on January 3, 2017, again has started his hunger strike since the re-arrest of his wife Golrokh on Saturday morning, January 22, 2017, BCR Group has learned.

The 30-year-old imprisoned activist was recently transferred to Ward 350 of Tehran notorious Evin prison, says HRANA. He, who has diagnosed with kidney and digestive failure due to a 71-day long hunger strike, was first taken to Ward 2-A of Sepah (the IRGC controlled section) with the excuse of transferring to hospital six days ago. Wardens transferred Arash to Ward 2-A at the same time resuming his hunger strike. The agents finally took him to Ward 350 after he endured three days in solidarity confinement cells, local sources quoting his relatives. News indicate that his personal belongings such as marriage ring and watch were supposedly stolen in transfer.

“Ward 350 is heavily guarded and severely isolated section allegedly run by the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence where prisoners of conscience are locked up in. The ward has limited contact with the outside world.”

Previously, Arash had started an indefinite hunger strike following arbitrary arrest of his life Golrokh on October 25, 2016. “I will continue my hunger strike until Iran’s authorities release her from the prison, HRANA quoted it form his letter. Finally, he ended his hunger strike after 71 days on January 3, after officials released his wife on a $125,000 USD.

Despite official promises, on January 22, the Sarallah Base agents (IRGC's main security group in Tehran) rearrested Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee in front of her house in the morning and took her to Executing Verdict Department where is located in Evin prison. She was arrested along with her friend Saeed Eghbali, according to reports. Agents ultimately transferred Golrokh to Women Ward of Evin and released Saeed on January 23, 2017.

Hence, Arash is back on hunger strike because the authorities did not fulfilled their promises. He is currently kept at Ward 350 along with a few of political prisoners. The prisoners are deprived of making phone calls with their families, HRANA added.

According to news, the peaceful human rights activist is still being denied medical treatment by authorities. Arash was repeatedly unable to breathe without a pulmotor system and his life reportedly at risk. “The senior specialist at hospital emphasized that Arash needs to be hospitalized for at least five days to receive medical treatment for his critical condition”, close sources to Arash told BCR Group once he was previously transferred to hospital. Early January, prison doctors had reported that the damage in Arash's right kidney is so severe that it will likely never return to normal functionality. The report said that 70% of his right kidney and 20% of his left kidney are already damaged. "Arash Sadeghi has not received adequate medical care. Iranian regime authorities are torturing Arash through medical neglect, "says Maryam Nayeb Yazdi, an Iranian activist, on her Twitter account.

He is currently suffering from a low blood pressure, a lung infection, a severe cough, gastrointestinal bleeding and pneumonia, according to the medical reports.

Human Rights organizations and many worldwide activists have come out in support of Arash Sadeghi and his legal demands.

On December 30, 2016, Iranian citizens and activists around the world came together on Twitter to spread global awareness about his critical situation. Their efforts led to #SaveArash to become the top trending hashtag in the world and celebrities and Iranian parliament members to pay attention and speak up about Arash. However, international attention to Arash's case also led to the Iranian regime's media to launch a misinformation campaign against him and Golrokh. For example, the TV show 20:30, which is a propaganda arm of the Sarallah Base, shamelessly aired an episode attempting to smear the couple.

Both of Arash and Golrokh are currently kept at Evin prison to serve their unjust sentences respectively 19 years in prison and 6 years imprisonment.

The Tragic Tale of Imprisoned Couple Arash and Golrokh:

Arash Sadeghi's last arrest was on June 7, 2016 and he has been held in Evin Prison since then. He is being held in Evin's Ward 8 amongst prisoners who are charged with serious offences such as robbery, embezzlement, fraud and forgery.

Arash Sadeghi was sentenced to a 15-year prison term by branch 15 of Tehran's revolutionary court, presided by the corrupt Judge Salavati. In the same court hearing, Golrokh was sentenced to six years in prison. Arash had a previous four-year suspended imprisonment sentence in which Salavati activated in the court hearing, thus condemning Arash to a total of 19 years in prison. Both Arash and Golrokh were deprived of their right to a lawyer during the hearing.

Prior to his 15-year prison sentence, Arash was sentenced to six years in prison, which was eventually reduced to one year in prison and four years of suspended imprisonment. The charges against him include: "Gathering and colluding against national security ", "Propaganda against the regime ", "Insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran ", and "Spreading false news in cyberspace ".

Arash Sadeghi, a Masters of philosophy student who is barred from his education by the regime, was first arrested in July 2009. The nonviolent civil rights defender has been in and out of prison since then and has been severely tortured by his interrogators. Throughout these seven years of repeated imprisonment, Arash has launched several hunger strikes to protest against his unjust sentence and the unlawful behavior and actions of the Iranian regime's authorities.

Despite the decline in his health, authorities have frequently prolonged Arash's imprisonment, kept him in solitary confinement for long durations, physically and psychologically abused him, and tortured him through depriving him of his right to adequate medical care. As a result of the physical tortures inflicted on Arash during interrogations, he has suffered a broken shoulder and broken ribs and still continues to suffer from these injuries today. Arash is in need of medical treatment for his injuries caused by the hunger strikes and tortures he endured.

Arash has had an extremely painful experience in these seven years. Among the worst was arguably when his mother died during a violent house raid by Iranian regime authorities on October 30, 2010. According to close sources, Arash's mom died as a result of the shock of the raid.

Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee was nabbed at her house by IRGC forces early morning on October 24, 2016. The agents kicked down the door to her home and entered without an arrest warrant, according to her relatives. She was reportedly taken to Evin Prison and held in the women's ward. Golrokh is charged with "Insulting Islamic sanctities” (blasphemy) for an unpublished fictional story she had written in her journal about "stoning ", according to various confirmed sources.

Seyed Hossein Ronaghi Maleki, imprisoned blogger who launched a hunger strike on May 26, 2012 in protest of his mistreatment and interference by the IRGC and the Intelligence Agency in his case, preventing the upholding of the law and legal procedures, blocking judicial independence, impeding the rights of political prisoners and their families, wrote a letter to his friend imprisoned student Arash Sadeghi, who is being held behind bars in Ward 209 of Evin prison.

According to Kalame, imprisoned student activist Arash Sadeghi launched a hunger strike several days ago in support of his friend Hossein Ronaghi Maleki. Imprisoned student activist Arash Sadeghi fell into coma, transferred to hospital!

According to the Daneshjoo News website, since the onset of Arash Sadeghi’s hunger strike on March 15, 2010 until the present, his physical condition has severely deteriorated. The effects of torture by government agents has been so severe that student activist Arash Sadeghi fell into a coma today, forcing the Evin prison officials to transfer him to Modarres hospital.

A few days ago, due to the tortures inflicted on Arash Sadeghi in ward 209 of Evin prison, his shoulder blade and ribs were broken. The prison guards refused to send Arash Sadeghi to the prison clinic. Instead, he was transferred to solitary confinement.

According to the Arash Sadeghi Facebook page, prison officials informed the Sadeghi family that their son passed out as a result of severe weakness.

In a phone conversation with Arash Sadeghi’s family members, security officials instructed them to not visit him in the hospital since it is not permitted. Nevertheless, Arash Sadeghi’s family still intended to go.

*UPDATE March 18, 2011*

March 17, 2011 RAHANA – After enduring severe torture and being subjected to intense pressures, Arash Sadeghi has been transferred to solitary confinement once again by prison officials.

According to Daneshjoo News and Arash Sadeghi’s Facebook fan page, Arash has been subjected to brutal interrogations and torture due to going public in recounting circumstances leading to his mother’s death and granting interviews with news organizations that are not in line with the regime.

According to reports, Arash was severely beaten and tortured, resulting in his shoulder being broken. After he somewhat sustained from his injuries, the prison officials intended to take him to the hospital, but Arash objected to having his hands and feet shackled and therefore refused to go unless the shackles were removed.

After Arash took this stance, prison officials were aggravated by his perseverance and resistance, so they transferred him to solitary confinement once again.

It is reported that Arash was attacked because he refuted the regime’s account of the circumstances resulting in his mother’s death. He is also under intense pressure due to his refusal to grant interviews with state-run media.

Meanwhile, his prison furlough request for the Persian new year was denied. He is now required to spend the first month of the new year by himself in solitary confinement.

It is worth mentioning, previously Arash’s family had brought clothes to him in prison, but prison officials didn’t allow the clothes to be delivered. They also said that Arash is not allowed any visitors.

January 15, 2011 – Arash Sadeghi, student activist at Allameh Tabatabai University and one of the active students during the 2009 presidential elections is in need of urgent medical attention as a result of the physical and psychological torture he has endured while in prison.

According to reports by the Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners, Sadeghi was first arrested July 9, 2009, after altercations between students, security forces, and plain clothes agents at Tehran University dormitories, when he was arrested at his father’s residence. Sadeghi’s family who were left in the dark regarding his whereabouts were initially under the impression that Sadeghi had also been killed during the post election incidents.

They later ascertained that Sadeghi was being held at the Sepah’s Ward 2A in Evin Prison and had endured extensive torture during his arrest. Sadeghi described the torture he endured at the hands of his interrogators as follows:

- He was hung from the ceiling from one leg and left hanging for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
- He was slapped for two to three hours causing damage to his eye, optic nerves and tearing of his ear drum.
- He was forced to lick the filthy toilet bowl and its content.
- Interrogators urinated on his face while holding his mouth open.
- He was banned from bathing despite the aforementioned conditions.
- He was pushed down from a height of two to three meters causing damage to the tendons in his legs.
- He was dragged on scorching hot asphalt resulting in severe damage to his skin.
- He was beaten repeatedly in the neck with a baton resulting in damage to his vertebrae in his neck.

According to Sadeghi, interrogators demanded that he confess to “membership in Iran’s Mojahedin Khalgh Organization (MKO)” and other falsities while being video taped. Sadeghi was extensively tortured after refusing to comply with such demands and was kept in solitary confinement for a period of 50 days. After enduring endless, excruciating torture Sadeghi was thrown out of a vehicle and left unconscious in East Tehran.

Sadeghi was arrested a second time on December 27, 2009 in Tehran during Ashura demonstrations and was later released on $50,000 bail in April of 2010. Sadeghi was also arrested twice in May of the same year, but released both times after short term detentions.

On November 10, 2010, Sadeghi’s sentenced was reduced by the Appeals Court from 6 years prison and 74 lashings, to 5 years in prison. After Sadeghi’s sentence was announced, without any prior notice or summoning by the court, security forces brutally raided his parents’ residence at 4:00am in the morning in order to arrest him. The sudden raid and ruthless behavior by security forces led to Sadeghi’s mother suffering a heart attack, being hospitalized, and then passing away after four days of hospitalization.

In an interview right after his mother’s death, an extremely depressed Sadeghi stated: “My family hold me responsible for my mother’s death. Life has becoming a living hell. All I want is to return to prison.”

While in prison Sadeghi released a statement on the occasion of Iran’s Student Day [on December 7th]. This led to his transfer to solitary confinement at the Intelligence Ministry’s Ward 209 at Evin prison where he was severely beaten by interrogators leaving him with a broken shoulder and loss of control in his legs.

Sadeghi then went on a 14 day hunger strike protesting the torture he had endured while in solitary confinement and was eventually transferred back to the general ward at Evin. According to his cell mates, as a result of the extensive torture he endured, Sadeghi is unable to stand and continues to suffer from a broken shoulder. In addition as a result of his hunger strike, Sadeghi now suffers from a bleeding ulcer and other ailments such as a lung infection. Despite his dire physical condition, Sadeghi has been deprived of medical attention and a psychological and physical evaluation.
