The rule taught is that the child must be able to touch the footpegs and demonstrate upper and lower body control. I will not allow a child to ride with me who does not have these traits. There is no special age at which this occurs, and depends on many non-age related factors. I have a friend who only spends 90% of his riding time with his strong, mature 8-year-old. He will leave the sport if this legislation passes.

Parents deserve to use thier better judgment on whether or not the child is ready/capable of being a passenger on a motorcycle. This legislation is also misguided as countless other activities involving children under 14 end in tragedy a lot more often than being a passenger on a motorcycle. Riding in the back of the family car comes to mind - the most frequent killer of children.

Bill 117 should be crushed.

I strongly disagree with your legislation. My soon to be 12 year old daughter will be very disappointed she is not able to ride with her Dad!

Since then she continued to ride, she has gone to Queen Park Toronto from Sault Ste Marie with me. She was also involved in Bikers Rights Organization, as the youngest member and received the Governor General Award in 2004. She put in four years of volunteer work while the high school volunteer program was mandatory at only 40 hours. She has gained great insight in the workings of politics.
