I too have been left short of the government buyout of the aquarium fish industry. The governments target was 8 licences out of 11 in total. Even though we are one of the smaller industries the zoning has affected us the most at 70% Even so the government only removed 5 licences, buying the biggest one and then the smallest few, leaving out the majority of ones who have been most affected

The Queensland goverment has unfairly targeted fishermen throughout the rezoning process without properly reducing effort or compensating for the loss of grounds and income. This must be rectified. If resources have been taken from the fishing industry and given over to the exclusive use of other industries such as the recreational sector and the 'enviro-tourism' sectors,as has happened with the yellow and green zones then these sectorhould be contributing to buying out further licences.

If not for the good of the nation, Qld bureaucratic decision makers need to be reminded (and memorise) that even Govt jobs are longer safe. Because, when the commercial industry begins to collapse and requires additional state & federal government regulation and support, the shadow Minister will be armed with the sound knowledge (scientific data, industry results). That may translate to power and control. So, I respectfully petition the current bureaucrats, various Ministers and Premier re-acce

Please review the fishing licence surrender process. On a planet where protein demands are only going to increase in line with population growth, there will always be economic pressure on Moreton Bay fish stocks. To offer voluntary surrender of licences is not the answer and will only target the ineffective producers. There are some great policies used in northern Europe that have been much more effective in promoting sustainabilty than this Structural Adjustment Package.

As a licences owner I understand why this petitions has been prepared myself and my husband have already send a letter of similar substaince to The Preimer our local members and many others with no answer so I am 100% behind this move. I completely agree that the targets set out have not been achieved and the struggle for commercial fisher just keeps getting harder.
