Anonymous, gold coast, Australia
The role of a parent is the hardest job in the world . As a single woman trying to play the roles of both mum and dad is challenging enough without extra pressure financially to add to an already difficult task. The trauma u go thru as a family in a relationship breakdown is enormous in all aspects of life the everyday and long term effects are enormous, to say that these families no longer need support because of an eightth birthday is ludacrous. As a single mother the a loneness & fear I feel from ms carr's decisions in these matters affecting our payments & our future as a woman I cannot understand where she can fathom that we dont need parent support past age eight. They are babies who need there only parent available both emotionally & physically which will not happen if parents are forced into to much work too soon. The age is too low I pray she would reconsider her decision. It the toughest job in the world TO DO PROPERLY half measures dont wrk. Our children must come first they hold the keys to our future. As a nation I hope to grow & expand & show the world how aussies are first class but it will not happen if we dont get raising children right with all resources available

Anonymous
My child is 9... I receive no maintinence as her father is an..... When my child turned 3 months I was back at work and have steadily worked 35 hours ever since. I have no family support what so ever. For years I have saved every penny and just recently entered into buying a little home with a friend as it was a lot cheaper to do this, share the mortgage and have only one set of shared bills. This has worked out cheaper than renting on my own. I ought I was working hard in the work force and hard at home being a sole provider and parent. I thought buying this house was creating a future for my child, I thought that with our stability now in the home and job wise I would be now able to also study via correspondence to get a better paying job as cleaning is a very low weekly wage and money is always very tight. Now I have no choice but to sell the house, I can't afford to study and would you believe after 4 years my cleaning hours have been cut to make way for refugee people because my employer gets paid to take them on board! I cannot afford to rent that's why I did what I did and bought with another person to keep costs down..the house is near sold and we have nowhere to go.

Anonymous, Australia
I'm a single parent of a 10 year old daughter. I have for the past 7 years worked 35 hours per week. I have a shared mortgage of which I pay less than rent on. My friend and I will now have to sell the house. We will not make anything on it and I will have to enter the rental market and pay even more in rent than i was on the mortgage. It does not make sense! I end up losing everything I've worked so hard to achieve. My daughter loses her home and will now be a victim of forced poverty. I cannot leave my child at night time and get a second job, as suggested to me by Centrelink. I will now be paying more in rent and more in utilities as I can't share them with my house mate. I will not be able to make ends meet as I am a mere $40 over the threshold to be able to receive the new start payment. I'm at my wits end and don't know how we will survive. We are not single people looking for work, so many thousands of us are single PARENTS already working, trying to survive in a bad economy with jobs being scarce and rising living costs. We are already skating on thin ice. I stand to lose $200 per fortnight. Is there not one shr of morality out of all of the labor party MP's. Shame on you

With my payments cut i could loose my house as i have to work but i cant put my kids into care and pay around 200 per ftn they will have to stay home where is the safety in that...Please re think and look at what you are doing to australia especially the part time working single parent.. You are putting us further into poverty and that is not right I pay for some of my payment as does others by working it may not be much but its more than some Why dont they get rid of the baby bonus that will stop teenage pregnancy as i believe we shouldn't be paid to have children we have them because we want to and we get 10 mths to get all the items needed together...really disappointed I thought that a female in government would be good...well i was wrong

I think it's disgusting targeting single parents to pay back the debt our politions (labour) created! How can you possibly expect single parents to survive on the Newstart allowance - appalling even to put them in that category - they are SINGLE PARENTS!!!!! The govt. wants them to return to work with small (8 yrs) children BUT - where are all the jobs? The ideal would be part-time, school-hour jobs - good luck with that! And - who looks after/pays for the childcare when they're at work? Who takes the kids to their after-school activities? What ever happened to being a hands-on parent for your child? OR - do you seriously expect single parents to work full-time just because their child is now at school? HOW RIDICULOUS!!!! These poor kids already suffer enough just by only having one or divided parenting. The least they deserve is to have their parent there for them. Single parents are already doing it tough on the small amount they receive as it is - how will they survive on less? The cost of living keeps going up - they cannot survive on this amount! - THIS MUST NOT HAPPEN!

Miss Justine Indigo-Rose, Victoria, Australia
Single parents need parenting payment in order to survive. Parenting payment does not even cover the basic costs of living. With rent and the basic costs of living being so high.
The children of these families need this support in order to try and maintain and roof of their head, food, heating and educational needs. Most parenting payment pensioners of school age children are already engaged in part time or casual employment or continue to look for it. Newstart is not enough for families to survive on. Enforcing these parents to look for full time work will not help all these parents get full time work. There's not enough jobs out there to go around as it is. Reducing income support for parents to increase get further educated also hinders people gaining employment. Taking away concession veichle registration and amenties will make it impossible to keep a car on the road. And keep children warm in winter. Making sole parents look for full time work will create neglected children. Before and After school care is not available everywhere costs money, and is not always the choice of parent & child to be enforced to use. Your surplus is taking from some of Australia's most vunerable.
