Mr. Martin Jenkins, Smithsburg, Md, United States of America
The 6-period day is COMPLETELY UNRELATED to the core curriculum, as suggested by the BOE. The BOE has suggested that teachers, parents, and students may need to make arrangements to complete required lab assignments before or after school as the new 6-period schedule DOES NOT allow ample time for completion. The BOE and the school have provided NO info. regarding scheduling the additional time needed, transportation for students beyond normal school hours, or addt'l. compensation for teachers.

Smithsburg HS will begin this program in the 2012-13 school year, to test the new program. The BOE implied that the 6 period schedule is being implemented to align with the core program. However, after further inquiries, and research, these two matters are COMPLETELY UNRELATED! Furthermore, the 6 period day will not allow time to complete required AP labs (Chem., Physics, & Bio).
