The buyer DOES NOT want to sell. The government should not take this property thru eminent domain due to said fact. There are other sites that the jail can be built on. There was originally 14 options for the jail. The proposed jail site is LESS THAN 1,000 feet from the HARC Playground and bus garage. What happens if someone escapes..escapes do happen. You should not take property from someone who is not willing to sell.Longstreet, the attorney, who represents the Grossman family has owned the property for over 50 years and does not want to sell. By taking this property off the tax rolls, you are hurting the children in the Herkimer district. Herkimer has other options. At the meeting where the public was allowed to comment at, October 11, 2017, Carl Degristina is willing to negotiate a price for property that he owns. His property would be a great site for the jail. There is also the site at HCCC. The Sheriff doesn’t want it on Rte 28 either; he prefers it on 5S. I also have not seen costs versus benefit.

Especially when a long term oligarchy of men who are supposed to represent us and our best interests, are going to spend our money to execute a land grab from one of our own and reduce our tax base in the process. Land values go down, tax rate goes up and for that we get, and our fellow citizen loses, 26 acres to be used for a 6 acre
jail. A jail that is absolutely not needed on
a piece of property that'll be added to all the other property that the County already owns. The seizing of the P&C site makes no
rationale, fiscal sense at all. It is important only to the Majority in the Legislature who
must save face after squandering hundreds and hundreds of thousands of our dollars over the last 10 years on this
their legacy project. Their reputation and ego and self esteem demands that they pursue this mis-begotten dream to the very end, by any means, fair or foul, and the citizens will just have to accept their
