I am a resident on Manning Rd and my fear for the opening of Manning/Adelaide is simple...it's for the safety of the children who are walking to school. Dr Robert Thornton is a school on Scott St and many children use Manning Rd to walk to school. If this road is opened, I assure you, there will be many vehicles speeding down this road. The only reason the traffic right now is regulated at the allotted speed is due to the dead end at Manning /Garrard. Please do not make this beautiful area to live in....an unsafe one.

Previous studies apparently indicated that digging the virgin land would not be permitted and the cost of constructing a floating bridge to cross Corbet Creek, while still allowing for proper watershed would be too costly and would present its own set of problems. There was also apparently an indication during the last study, that emergency services, when asked, did not indicate a need for additional roadways to cross jurisdictions. Also to be considered is that Manning Road terminates at Brock Street in Whitby so the roadway will only service a limited area of Whitby. This limited area of Whitby has not changed in many years and neither has the need for this extension. All past attempts to have this proposal passed have been turned down. Revisiting this proposal time and time again makes one question why? What is the motivation? With the majority of housing expansion occurring north of Taunton Road, consideration of new connecting roadways in these areas would seem more viable.

The City doesn't maintain the current infastructure to levels where they may be made more efficient for managing traffic volumes without increased building. Invest in better public transit to provide resonable (time) alternatives to the use of cars. It is silly to destroy the greenspace associated with the expansion, devalue the properties that back on to it, for traffic that (1) is only excessive for a few/ rush our periods, (2) could be more efficiently handled by the existing roads. Spend the money fixing up the current roads.

Most of the congestion at this intersection is caused by the Tim Horton's drive through. Several roads wouldn't alleviate this problem.
This expansion may not reduce traffic on Dundas, but it will certainly impact traffic on Adelaide and Thorton road.
The proposed route may also affect the Provincially Endangered Butternut Tree within the study area, and damage a naturalized area.

The danger this presents is unsurmountable. Choosing to extend Adelaide will present extra ongoing costs to the city as well. A set of lights and/or a crossing guard will be required throughout the day. Concern for the natural environment. Endangered species (Butternut tree). Leave this natural environment for the families to enjoy. This precious area offers wildlife from birds (including Blue Herron), coyotes etc. Don't move extra traffic (diverted from a highway) into a residential neighbourhood. The "critical turning points" referred to are not busy enough to warrant this change!
