I think you should be able to vote after your probation, and I do not think any employer, school loan places, anything should show you have a felony if you did your time, and paid your fines. I copped my felony 8 years ago, did a almost a year of jail time, 3 years on probation and successfully completed my probation. I have just been put on child support only so my son can have health insurance because i cant afford it. I refuse to do wrong again but its so hard because I can't find a job. For the longest time I couldn't get a job (even in a booming economy) unless the employer didn't ask. I couldn't even find a place that would rent to me. As for going back to school, drug felons are the only ones who have to answer any question about their crime and rehabilitation process. Apparently, it's totally okay for a murderer to go back to school. I think that the "Ban the Box" initiative (for ANY application) would greatly help. My crime still affects me even though it's a misdemeanor now.

He has been out of jail for over 5 years. His jail time turned his life around, but to society that wasn't enough. He had all the qualifications and more at a job, but because of the felon he was denied. That is unfair. He is still doing "jail time" by being turned away, NOT FAIR. He does have a job now and is very responsible at it. He is always there on time and is moving up. The people that turn felons away should be penalized somehow.

In my opinion it is social Darwinism to confident an ex-felon as such. How can we expect felons to become reformed citizens if the work force will not allow them to? As far as I am concerned, ex-felons have to word harder and better to prove themselves, which makes them better employees.
