Danielle Foiles, Rohnert Park, California, United States of America
I currently am being harassed by my employer to change my appearance due to patients feeling unsafe around people with pink hair/colored hair and tattoos, however HR has no documentation to back this up. The NUHW union is fighting very hard for us at st Joseph health-Santa Rosa memorial hospital to keep our freedom and to be who we are not who someone wants us to be. I have letter from the president of our hospital stating how a patient mentioned me in our patient satisfactory survey and how well of a job I do. What he didn't know was what I looked like... this shows it's not what I look like it's how I treat people, and my skills. I'm hoping if we continue to fight for our rights as individuals one day my kids won't have to deal with feelings the way I do- discriminated due to being me.

I don't understand why my hair colour could affect my customer service or my tattoos that are not offensive. Also the majority of customers that enter the store I work in have different coloured hair and tattoos and I also get many comments on how nice they are.

By discriminating against these, the government is stating that they want everyone to be alike, and that those who aren't, don't deserve to be treated equally.
Sasha Wilde, Price, Utah, United States of America
I work at a public library and when I wanted to color my hair blue and green I ask if there was anything in their policy stating that it wasn't allowed. There wasn't. So after I colored my hair someone complained. Most the people in the comunity don't care what color my hair is, but after that one complaint they are changing their policy to say that it is not allowed. I hope this petition works because coloring my hair is who I am.

Piercings and tattoos are so main stream now a days how can you try to discriminate against them? I want to work in the health professions field someday and I'm constantly being told to stop getting piercings and tattoos. To do that would stop me from being me! Good men gave their lives for these freedoms, and we still do. I am a former Marine, but once a Marine always a Marine. I fought for freedom. I will always fight for freedom. We as a people have a right to express ourselves with body art and piercings. Make sure my friends didn't give their lives for nothing. Stop discrimination and intolerance, for if we do not, it will be our downfall.

After being pulled over by a police officer, I was immediately discriminated against because my hair was purple. I was very cooperative with said officer, yet he continued to harass me on the road for an hour. With my criminal justice background I know how to act in a traffic stop. I was humiliated and made to perform like a circus clown. If my hair would have been a "normal" color, I'm sure I would have been treated with dignity, not like a second class citizen.
