My husband works away for over 6 months of the year, up to 8 months living in a small apartment with bad food in Asia. I run a family home with children for this time as a single parent. The money my husband earns is currently spent in Australia. If this tax continues we will look at moving abroad.

Like many other families, we face the prospect of losing property if this tax ruling is implemented. We certainly do not have money available to pay a massive tax bill and although these workers do earn reasonable money, it does come at a cost to them and their families. I wonder if Mr Rudd would swap his work environment for a 4wk hitch offshore?? I seriously doubt it.

It is very very hard on famlies if your man is gone away working and you might not see them for 6 to 10 weeks.It is even harder for the kids only seeing there dad for short times and then not seeing them for this long.I no how hard it is with owe2 boys if my man is away working for 1 or 2 weeks but still in the same stat.So i just fill so sorry for the famlies where there other 1/2's are away for long times and then hit with the tax at lest they are working and not on the doll.

It is our own choice to work away in 3rd world countries in harsh conditions for extended periods.
The reality is with this scheme many are now moving 'offshore' Australia will loose money with this. Familys who reside in Australia suffer with absence of a parent working away and make an effort to get ahead. It is just not worth working offshore anymore especially with the US exchange rate. Who will protect workers unfairly dismissed (as a tax payer one should be protected).
