Just returned from living in Barcelona for 2 years
Went to my favourite part of SE, to find out it is closing. Thia cannot be true and this cannot happen. I against and i don't even live in the area. I am from the other side of town and Yes i shop that area based of variety and it's community feel and safety aspect. If anything is throwing things out of joint is FFFFOXTONS! get rid of YET another Estate Agency! I AM FOR NERO PLEASE KEEP NERO OPEN!

We have to do what we can to make everyone comply properly with the planning laws. The lesson must be that going ahead without planning permission means that retrospective permission will not be granted.

We don't need or want the large chains in East Dulwich - having Starbucks at Sainsbury's is more than enough.This site is a dominant one which could have been much better used as a shop.

This also happened in Hertford in Hertfordshire, they opened a branch in a listed shop and changed the windows because the original ones didnt suit them and the council let them get away with it . A company like Cafe nero can afford to pay expensive lawyers to launch and keep launching appeals , local councils cannot afford to keep contesting these so give in. I wish more people in East Dulwich would just avoid using the shop, there are really good alternatives there already.

They should apply for planning permission and wait for the desion like everyone else. If they dont then they should be made to close shop until it is obtained not carry on trading. They should also pay a fine for all the time they have been trading illegally.

There is no point in the planning application process if it becomes a matter of one rule for the small business or individual and one for the heavy weights of big consortiums. If this is allowed to go ahead, it could have a far reaching negative effect on all future planning boroughwide. i.e. Why bother with all the trouble and expense if you can go ahead and fix it afterwards!

I have no objection to Cafe Nero or any other chain per se , I object to the fact that they appear to have disregarded the planning regulations and attempted to force the hand of the council. It is inconceivable that they did not know that they were in the wrong.
