And we support new development, but not development that negatively impacts the historical cohesiveness that defines Pioneer Square. Pioneer Square IS Seattle’s history. It should be honored and preserved. Approval of new development should be a careful and thoughtful process, with an emphasis on insuring that the historic nature of Pioneer Square is not only preserved, but most importantly, remains the foremost identifying character for this unique and architecturally special neighborhood.

It needs to be protected at all costs. Progression is inevitable and it is not easy to preserve the things we hold dear; however, I believe it to be essential to the future of the city. Last time Seattle went through a massive growth spurt - at the beginning of the 1900s, we simply built on top of the old city, hereby creating the "Seattle Underground." An eventual 'row' of high rises fronting the waterfront will change Pioneer Square into a community divided not one united. The elite will command the view properties and could 'literally' turn their backs on the people who give Pioneer Square its character and vitality.

You miss the whole point of Pioneer square….do you not remember when the Pike Place Market was gaping to be "renovated." that "progress" would have totally destroyed one of seattle's premier landmarks….one of the things that makes Seattle Seattle. Ditto Pioneer square. No. Don't do it.
