We have a brain injured, 15 year old daughter who uses this respite house. We are unable to take her into the community due to her behaviour. She wakes the house by turning all lights on at 3am and is often up for hours. She has to be supervised constantly, wears nappies, is non verbal and doesn't know any danger. We are exhausted and do this day in and out. We can NEVER go holidays if it wasn't for the 4-5 days a month of respite that we get from Dapto. Closing the children's respite house will kill us.

Respite centres such as Dapto are the lifeline for people caring for children with disabilities. for those who foster these children the removal of services may stop them taking on the role placing a greater burden on the state than the money saved closing Dapto and others that are no doubt planned.
