A large chunk of serious, reportable crime in Okehampton during last year has been within the Fatherfood Lane area, which is part of the so called "safe" walking route, it being assessed ok for a child with special needs to walk along in the dark! I do wish that DCC be honest & not endeavour to dress up a flagrant cost cutting excercise as a re-measure of a route to school, when they have just announced a surplus of over £10 million! As is stated within the petition there are extremely narrow parts of the route which, having driven the route serveral times myself, cause an issue when trying to pass a single adult close to the edge of the road let alone a number of children walking in line in the pitch dark! The number of vehicle movements per day/week are irrelevant, as it would only take a vehicle driven incorrectly to potentially cause serious injury to a number of children! A number of times I have encountered herds of stock and other animals being either driven or moving of their own accord down this lane, on occasion they virtually stampede causing damage.
